- The baby birds are born!
Hi everyone, earlier this month, I wrote about the birds that came again this year to my house to make their nest in one of my wicker lamps. I shared a picture of the 3 eggs these beautiful birds put in that previous blog entry. This morning when I came back from running, I heard little noises in the nest, to my surprise I saw that the 3 baby birds are born. We named them Hugo, Paco and Luis. They are so cute and their parents are very happy as well. The mom constantly feeds them and cuddles with them as the dad watches in the distance protecting his offspring. It is such a beautiful experience to see these birds taking care of their babies. I will keep you guys posted and I will share with you more pictures of Hugo, Paco and Luis as they grow up before they leave their nest.

- Swimming in Yucatan´s Emerald Coast
A moment ago, I went for a swim in the open emerald sea. As usual, there was no one at the beach, I am lucky enough to live in a part of the Yucatan Emerald Coast where there are not that many people. Being in a place that is almost virgin makes me value nature a lot more and many other small things that we usually take for granted when we live in a city full of distractions. Entering an almost virgin sea alone could be a bit scary at the beginning, one starts to think if there are any sharks around or crocodiles since I have seen videos taken by locals of these reptiles entering the sea looking for food. Scary Images of movies or documentaries of predators attacking people come into my head. However, reality usually tends to be different from blockbuster flicks, there are many articles and educational videos in many streaming platforms that inform us that the probability of getting attacked by any of these animals is actually null. Frequently, we get scared of things we do not know. As my university martial arts couch back in Montreal used to say “Fear” means fake evidence appearing real. We tend to judge people or events before they even happen. The only way to find out is to face the challenge in front of you. It´s always better to share a fearful new experience with someone else, for my good or bad luck, my girlfriend does not know how to swim and is scared of whatever you may find in a virgin sea. For this reason, I started this new challenge alone, I began swimming close to the shore, when the weather is good you can see everything in the crystal-clear emerald water, however when it´s cloudy you don’t´ really see much in the turbulent water. There are only 2 choices, not getting in the water or jumping right in and start swimming along the coast enjoying the vast sea ahead of you, the waves and the virgin environment where you are at. I love the feeling of focusing on my swim, letting go of my fears, move forward concentrating in my goals, let the adrenaline and the endorphins kick in and go as far as I want to go in the endless sea. I am more confident now in the ocean than when I started. I like to go deeper since I am more familiar with my surroundings. Going back to the swim I had an hour ago, I had the beautiful experience of encountering a black seagull floating a couple of meters away from me when I emerged to surface. It was a very unique moment because the more I swim in this virgin sea, the more I love the environment and the virgin ecosystem that surrounds me. It is a true paradise and I hope it stays like this for a very long time. Will I get the courage to swim at night?? I have wondered how that experience may be. There is only one way to find out!
- “Peluche” The Guardian of the Emerald Coast
When I first arrived in the Emerald Coast, I was stunned by the beautiful sea that was welcoming me. I will never forget that moment of peace, immense beauty and the relaxing sound of the soft waves moving smoothly with great harmony. I am a person that likes to exercise but with all the stress from work and the agitated life of the city I was not making enough time for fitness. I was gaining weight and to make the story short I was very out of shape. Therefore, I decided to start running again, what better place to start than at the Emerald Coast right in front of that marvelous sea. The first day that I started running I hardly ran 1.5 km, I forgot that it is harder to run in the beach, plus I didn’t wake up that early so the sun was killing me. The next day I tried again but I was cheating, I was walking most of the time, I hardly made it further than 1.5 km again. The third day, I went for another run, but this time there was someone waiting for me, someone that had been watching me at the distance the first 2 days. Maybe I didn´t give him the right vibe at first or maybe he realized that I was going to continue cheating myself because the moment I stopped the fast pace, he came running towards me like a friend that you haven’t seen in a long time. He started jumping around me motivating me to keep running and that’s exactly what I did. In fact, we ran together for another 1.5 km non stop until I dropped in the sand breathless. I felt so good after that exercise. When I came back home, I realized that I had forgotten the feeling of that great rush one experiments when you push yourself to the limit. That was the first time I met Peluche. The next day, I went back to the beach for my early run. After the first kilometer, Peluche was there, at the same spot, waiting for me. However, this time he wasn’t alone, he was with his whole pack composed of 5 dogs, Peluche is the leader and every time I go for a run, they all join me in my new challenge. Peluche is such a special living thing to me because he doesn’t just run with me, he is always there every time I need him. When I go for a walk at the beach to think about stuff or to meditate, he is always there and sits next to me. We have contemplated so many sunsets together. Peluche is everyone´s dog and no one´s pet at the same time. I feed him and his pack everytime I can, most of the time they figure it out. They belong to the beach, they have learned to survive. It is impressive how nature is so resilient; he has thaught me a couple of lessons. I wanted to write about Peluche because he is my true friend and he has inspired me in some many ways. I will never forget that day sitting beside him and his pack staring at the sunset. That day at that very moment, I felt the courage to start my own Real Estate company. It has been a great experience and Peluche is always right. We still going that extra kilometer.
- May in Yucatan´s Emerald Coast
May is the warmest month of the year in Yucatan. As the heat rises, the desire to be close to the ocean increases. The crystal-clear water of the sea particular of this season welcomes all the people arriving on the weekends to their beach houses escaping the agitated life of the city. Early in the mornings you can see a few people kayaking along the coast and a few more running trying to catch the beautiful sunrise welcoming a new day full of joy and new promises in a paradise called the Yucatan Emerald Coast. People are not the only living creatures arriving to paradise, May is the month when turtles come back to the place where they were born to put their eggs. If you are lucky enough you might spot one of these beautiful moments of nature taking place right in front of you. The turtles usually come in the early hours of the day but you can see their footprints in the white sand if you go for an early walk. A beautiful pair of birds returned this year to put their eggs in one of my porch wicker lamps. I guess they liked my house because they came last month to start creating their nest again. I saw their eggs 2 days ago, it´s such a beautiful moment, I love hearing them sing while I write this post. The birds are not the only babies I got, Chela the iguana who loves to tan on my perimetral wall also put her eggs somewhere in my property and I got a squirrel who also found a comfortable place at the top of one of my palm trees to have her babies. Achilles and Dante (my dogs) are always watching her when she comes down to look for food to feed her babies. June and July are coming and many families will arrive to enjoy the sought after summer season at the Yucatan Emerald Coast. See you guys in my next post!

- Merida´s Historic Center
This is defenetely one of the best areas to live or to visit in Yucatan. Everyone loves, history, culture and colonial architecture. In this article, I will talk about some of the best Barrios to live in Centro. Merida´s historic center is divided by Barrios, each one has it´s own history and it´s own vibe. Some of the most desirable Barrios to live in, are Barrio de Santa Ana, Barrio de Santa Lucía, Barrio de Santiago, and Barrio de La Mejorada. “Why are these 4 Barrios the most soght after by buyers? They are the best located in terms of historical value and all the services are within walking distance." Something unique about each Barrio, is that each one has it´s own park and it´s own church. For example, Barrio de Santa Ana has Santa Ana park and the Santa Ana church. As I said, each Barrio has it´s particular elements that makes them different from the rest. Depending on the Barrio, is the value of the property. Some are more expensive than others. Barrio de Santa Ana is defenetely my favourite one. It is located parallel to the famous Paseo Montejo where you will find stunning historical buildings with french and eclectical architecture. It is a great pleasure to walk, run, go for a coffee or grab a beer in this historical avenue. In Paseo Montejo you will find great restaurants with local, mexican and international cuisines, museums, art galleries, hotels, coffee shops and bars with incredible interior designs. Most of the colonial houses in Santa Ana are restored, you can still find an opportunity but this is the most expensive Barrio of all due to it´s priviledge location of being beside Paseo Montejo. Barrio de Santa Lucía is the second most sought after Barrio. It is next to Barrio de Santa Ana and it´s main attraction is Santa Lucía park, historically known for having the "serenatas yucatecas". This area has the most bohemian atmosphere of all. Santa Lucía park has the best gourmet restaurants in all the Historic Center. If you want to go for dinner with your partner, friends or family, this is the place. At night it´s just beautiful, you will see locals and international residents meeting for dinner or having a couple of glasses of wine, Tequila or Mezcal. It´s hard to find a property for sale in this area but I can assure you some of the most beautiful restored colonial houses are in this Barrio. Barrio de Santiago- Without a doubt, one of my favourites. It is a very desirable area due to it´s proximity to the Cathedral, Santiago park, Santiago church and Santiago´s market where you will find fresh fuits and local food. There is also a supermarket and a cinema in the park. At night you can still see local people dancing the traditional Jarana. This Barrio is full of history, great spas, art galleries and great restaurants as well. There are great colonial houses restored and to be restored. Barrio de La Mejorada- Also one of the most historic and conservative Barrios. Home of the first "Los Almendros" restaurant, known for it´s delicious yucatecan food nation wide. It is also close to the Cathedral, it has La Mejorada park, it´s church and there are gorgeous colonial houses as well. This Barrio is beautiful to walk at night. Merida´s historic is defenetly a magical place to live or to visit. If it is your fist time, trust me, you will fall in love with the place and you will never want to leave.
