The sought after city of Merida, Yucatan is more than just culture, history, nature and tourism. It is becoming a very desirable place to live world wide. It is known as one of the safest cities in the world and one of the best metropolis for expats to start a new life.
Originally, Merida was a place for tourism, people would come from all over the world to visit the Historic Center, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, the Haciendas, the cenotes and the magical towns found all over Yucatan like Valladolid and Izamal.
In the past years, more people have come from different parts of the world to call Merida their new home. The Historic Center was the most desirable area to live in Merida by expats. Centro is BEAUTIFUL but the northern part of Merida is another great option that is attracting a lot of locals from other parts of Mexico and international new residents.

Why is the northern part of Merida a good place to buy a property?
“La Zona Norte de Mérida” has a lot to offer. There are different neighborhoods with unique features. There are conservative-modern residential areas like Itzimna, Garcia Gineres, Buenavista, Col. Mexico and Campestre that currently are in high demand. These neighborhoods are close to the Historic Center and there are all kinds of modern services around. These residential areas were built in the 70s, 80s and 90s and have a beautiful architectural design from that époque. They connect easily with the rest of the city; you could be in the Historic Center or in Altabrisa mall in 10 minutes from any of these locations. Each house of these neighborhoods has a unique architectural design and they are all different. They are ideal to restore! These neighborhoods are in the transformation of becoming a modern multicultural area with an eclectical architecture due to their strategical location and mixed of cultures.
If we keep going north, we will find the brand-new residential areas. Here is where the most exclusive malls, hospitals, restaurants, private schools and the newest mixed commercial/residential buildings of the city are located. I am talking about Monte Bello, Montecristo, Cabo Norte, Altabrisa, San Ramon Norte, etc. These modern neighborhoods were mainly desirable by nationals from Mexico City and the northern part of Mexico. Now a days there are more north Americans and Europeans that want to live in this chic spot. “Zona Norte” has a lot to offer, it is the business area and the modern part of the metropolis. It is a good place to invest and many digital nomads want to live in this part of the city.
A particular feature that I love of the “Zona Norte of Merida is that it is becoming a very unique place with a very particular multicultural atmosphere. It is where the new residents from other parts of Mexico meet the new international residents. Most of the people speak English, they have traveled worldwide, they are entrepreneurs, business oriented young adults with a first world perspective. It is not surprising, that the modern part of Merida is becoming a very desirable spot for younger expats that want to live in Merida, grow with the city and be part of this new cultural mix that “La Ciudad Blanca” has to offer. You can go to a gym and find people from Yucatan, Mexico City, Montreal, Seattle, Belgium and more. TO BE CONTINUED!
